Digital Candy Thermometer

Looking for a digital candy thermometer?  When you’re out making candy as a chef, a digital candy thermometer will be necessary for you to figure out when the candy has dropped to a certain temperature, you will also need to know the highest temperature reached as well.  This type of information is vital to you producing quality candy, because even the best cooks can’t rely 100% on their intuition.

So if you’re looking for a digital candy thermometer to give you a little bit of help in cooking up your candy concoctions, here are a few that you may want to take a look at:

1.  Maverick CT-03 Digital Oil & Candy Thermometer

This one has been rated 4/5 stars on Amazon by 30 customer reviews, which is a pretty decent rating, it also weighs in at $19.43.

It’s a digital thermometer that has 14 pre-programmed settings for both hot oil as well as candy.  This also signals you via beeps and flashes when you’ve reached a specific temperature.  This is all displayed to you on a big LCD monitor that has a splatter and heat shield.  It runs on triple A batteries and it is easy to clean off with just a damp cloth.

The Maverick thermometer here gives the user a lot of options at a cheap price.  You have an extra long stem that allows you to use this in many kinds of vessels and the temperature can be read in either numeric or candy type.  There is an overheat alarm here as well that will prevent you from having it damaged by the candy getting too hot.

As far as the bad points, this cannot monitor cooling for fudge and fondants that need cooling to 110 degrees before stirring since the unit turns off after 3.5 minutes when the temperature dips below 130 F.

2.  Polder 510 Glass Candy/Deep Fry Thermometer

Another option if you want to go simpler and cheaper is this $4 option.  This was given 4/5 stars by 12 reviewers so it’s a pretty decent choice, although it’s not a digital candy thermometer.

Despite being so cheap, this is well made and sturdy, it does the job well.  The only thing is the clip that holds it to the pot can be a bit flimsy.

3.  CDN Proaccurate Digital Programmable Probe Thermometer

Here’s one more digital candy thermometer for $17.82 at Amazon.  It’s rated 3.5/5 stars by 31 customer reviews.

This is a digital candy thermometer that can withstand high heat, as much as 482 degrees F.  It is accurate, has a large display, comes with a wall mount, magnetic attachment to metal surface and it’s sold at a good price.  Some reviewers say the thermometer doesn’t last long though.
