Here is a really cheap solution at only $9.99.  It is a simple 5” shatterproof and recalibratable stem that measures from 0 to 220F.  Its instant and its accurate.   There is a large dial on this which is easy to read, a great item for the money.

With 4.5/5 stars, 95 reviews and a price of only $19.99, this one is very likely the most popular CDN thermometer out there. 

It has a 5” stainless and shatterproof stem with an auto-off feature after 10 minutes.  It measures between -40 and 350F and is a very accurate digital CDN thermometer.

If you’re not willing to invest $100 in a Thermapen instant thermometer, this is the next best thing to get as it gives you a pretty quick read.  Even Cook’s Illustrated believes this to be one of the best available and they’re usually not wrong so it’s worth a look into.
